modern. simple. beautiful.
Congratulations on your engagement!! Thank you for considering us to capture your engagement session.
An engagement session is the best way to get to know your photographer on a working basis, and for your photographer to get to know you as a couple in front of the camera.
Engagement sessions are awkward! They just are, at least at the beginning but by the end you guys will be pro models. The time with your photographer helps you learn their communication style and posing, making your wedding day pictures go smoothly. A big plus if you will have a time crunch for pictures.
This is our standard engagement session and is perfect for couples who want a lot of variety, multiple locations, outfit changes, and more subjects than just the 2 of you (ie kids or pets).
This is a more relaxed quick session taking place at a park or location not located downtown.
Studio engagement photos are captured on a white or black backdrop in our Plum studio. We can also do old box studio style photos with cheesy poses, props and backgrounds.

When should I schedule my engagement session?
If you’re going to use your engagement photos for save the dates you would want to schedule your session 9 months to a year before your wedding. If you miss this deadline, it’s not the end of the world so long as your guests have a heads up on your date. You can even include them in the invitation. If you’re going to use the photos for a signature album, you’ll need time for the printing of the album. I’d advise at least 6 months before the wedding. The latest I’d advise for your engagement photos to be taken would be 3 months before the wedding. This way your photographer has time for the edit and printing to decorate for your reception.Short Answer: 1 year to 3 months before the wedding.
FAQ - Tips & Tricks
Where should I take my photos?
The best thing about engagement photos: you’re not limited to a time crunch or locations that are close to your venues. So you can be as creative as you’d like on the location and or the theme. When choosing a location I like a place that’s sentimental - the coffee shop you met in, PNC park because that's where he proposed. Or something that looks great in photos: Point State Park, North Shore, Mt Washington, Mellon Institute, Clemente Bridge, Mellon Park. I’ve done photos on people’s farms with their trucks, downtown with people’s dogs. Your engagement photos should showcase you as a couple, who you are and what you love.
What time should our photos be?
Again, there’s not so many restrictions but golden hour is a photographers best friend. Golden hour is the hour prior to the sunsetting. The sun is low allowing for nice even lighting preventing squinting. If you’re looking for nice orange lighting and a sunset in your photos then, you’d like golden hour. Otherwise they can be whenever you’d like.
What should we wear?
It doesn’t matter so much what you wear, but it should coordinate. If one person has on dress shoes and the other person has on old sneakers it won't look cohesive - but if that's the way you are who are we to judge. You can have 2 outfits, one dressy and one casual showcasing both side of you and adds to the variety. If one of you are going to wear a pattern the other should wear a coordinating solid. If we are going to be in the grass don’t wear a lot of green. Wear something you are comfortable in and makes you feel amazing. If you don't like your outfit you won't like your pictures. If we are walking a lot you may want to consider wearing flats and bringing the heals. When in doubt ask your photographer- they will be able to guide you in choosing a great outfit.
What about our pets?
Pets are family too. We always encourage people to take pictures with their fur babies. For cats and house pets (or crazy dogs) we can always meet at your home before going on location. A small space with a blank wall always works nice. A porch or backyard also makes for a great backdrop if you're able to go outside.
When bringing a dog (or a very well trained cat) on location sometimes it is easiest to have a puppy sitter with you to handle them while you are concentrating on gazing lovingly into each others eyes. You could also just have someone meet us for 20 minutes and then take the dog home again. Your choice, but PLEASE bring your babies.
How do I book an engagement session?
The best way to begin booking a session is to contact Natalia at 2nd II None. firstname.lastname@example.org. She will be able to answer any questions you may have, as well as book your engagement session or get you into contact with your photographer.
Can I get an engagement session if I’m not booking my wedding photos through you?
Absolutely, engagement sessions are not limited to couples who book their wedding photos though 2nd II None.
What can I do with my engagement photos?
Engagement photos are great to use for your save the dates, invitation inserts, as favors at your wedding, guest album, signing board, decorating your reception, on your wedding website and more.
What if it rains on my scheduled day?
Depending on the rain, you can still have the session with umbrellas, we would reschedule or move to an inside location (not always super easy). If you are getting your hair and makeup professionally done, I would want you to cancel the shoot sooner so you aren’t charged a penalty with the salon. Typically we wait until the morning of the session to reach out for a reschedule. This is Pittsburgh and the weather man lies quite a bit here and the weather changes on a dime. We don't like to reschedule if we don't have to.
Do you provide hair and makeup?
We do not provide hair and makeup, but we can give you some referrals to some amazing artists. However this is a great time for you to use your trial run on your wedding makeup / hair.
I get an engagement session with my wedding package, what does that mean?
Yay! We love photographing our wedding couples' engagement session. With the wedding package you get the 90 minute session at a location of your choice, though you can choose to do the 45 minute or studio engagement session if you prefer. We try to make the session with the photographer who will be capturing your wedding although sometimes due to scheduling conflicts Natalia may capture your engagement but not your wedding. You can schedule your engagement session once your deposit is paid.
Is there a penalty for canceling / rescheduling?
There is no penalty for canceling your appointment for reasons other than weather. Please give your photographer a text no later than 2 hours prior to your session time. Depending on the time of year appointments may be limited so rescheduling may be more difficult.
How long does it take to get our photos back?
Turn around for an engagement session is 1-3 weeks. You will receive a link in an email to your gallery where you can download your images.
What about our kids?
What kind of people would we be if we allowed pets but not kids? Of course bring us all your babies. Sometimes a wedding is a lot more than just 2 people coming together. Sometimes it's the solidification of a new family. If you have kids and you want them to be in the photos - we think it's awesome. It's not a bad idea to have a babysitter on hand with us as well, there will be times when the kids will not be in the photos, we'll need you to be able to concentrate on each other and directions.
How do I pay?
You can pay with Cash, Check or Credit Card. The price does not reflect sales tax or a 3% service charge on credit card transactions. You can pay at the time of service or call into the office 412-927-0223 with a credit card prior to the session.
